TAKE A PEEK AT BRUNSWICK COUNTY'S BEST KEPT SECRET

Paradise in the Pines
Tucked away among tall pines, mature oaks and sweet gum trees is a sprawling 23.3 square mile community featuring 50 natural and man made lakes. The quiet city offers spring-fed swimming lakes and beaches, walking trails, eight parks and playgrounds, an 18-hole golf course and a disc golf course. The calm, quiet lakes are perfect for kayaking, fishing and bird watching - keep your eyes peeled for bald eagles and the endangered Red-Cockaded Woodpecker.
Down, But Not Out
BSL, as known to the locals, took quite a hit in 2018 when the torrential rains of Hurricane Florence sat over the Cape Fear for days on end. Five dams gave way, effectively draining the Big Lake, North Lake and Pine Lake. When Boiling Spring Lakes residents were out of power, out of water and out of luck, I watched a city come together to support one another. The loss of the lakes - the heart of the city - was a blow, but hope remained as the community agreed, "we will rebuild." While the pandemic did as pandemics do to original timelines, completed restoration of the lakes is projected for June 2025.
